Sometimes a gutter repair is just a gutter repair: sometimes it is essential for preserving an historic home. In Salem, Massachusetts, a faulty gutter caused water damage and threatened the structural integrity of a home built in 1840.
The WORKS team was called in to remove the old gutter and copper downspouts. We then installed a new fascia (the band under the roof edge) and patched the soffit (the underside of the fascia).
We found and installed a 40-foot long wood gutter that fit the aesthetic of a nearly 200-year-old Salem home. We also installed a 40-foot long gutter guard. We then returned the original copper downspouts to their positions and sanded, primed, and painted the new wood gutter. Because the front door of the Salem house had also suffered damage from the faulty gutter, we scraped, sanded, primed, and repainted the door.
With a new wood gutter and gutter guard, this historic Salem home is now ready to face the future as it has for over 170 years.
